Cottonseed: A sustainable contributor to global protein requirements
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cottonseed is a sustainable source of plant protein, producing ~10 million metric tons protein globally. This has the potential to fulfil annual requirement more than half billion people Its functional properties have established cottonseed (CSP) as candidate for alleviating malnutrition in Asian and African continents. Regardless these quality attributes, inherent association gossypol with CSP makes it unsuitable direct human consumption due its toxicity. The present review elaborates on physical, chemical biological methods enhancing suitability nutrition by reducing content permissible limits (450 ppm) per U.S. Food Drug Administration World Health Organization. Amino acid profiling, property (water holding capacity, oil foaming properties, emulsification characteristics, solubility), vitro digestibility molecular weight analyses are parameters considered important application foods. also highlights diverse applications directly or indirectly animal protein. Degossypolyzation mainly performed solvent extraction, although gamma irradiation use microorganisms gaining momentum. good food feed formulations, balanced amino composition comparable those soy Integration both might prove be efficient degossypolization improving utilization nutrition.

Bates: Cottonseed Protein
The most serious feature of worldwide mal nutrition is the lack of adequate protein in quan tity or quality at a reasonable price in developing countries. The development of regional vegetable protein mixtures, such as Incaparina, is a prom ising and successful approach. Cottonseed is a logical inexpensive source of valuable protein, limited mainly by its free gossypol content and lysine destru...
متن کاملThrombosis: a major contributor to global disease burden.
BACKGROUND Thrombosis is the common pathology underlying ischemic heart disease, ischemic stroke, and venous thromboembolism (VTE). The Global Burden of Disease Study 2010 (GBD 2010) documented that ischemic heart disease and stroke collectively caused 1 in 4 deaths worldwide. GBD 2010 did not report data for VTE as a cause of death and disability. OBJECTIVE To review the literature on the gl...

Thrombosis is a common pathology underlying ischaemic heart disease, ischaemic stroke, and venous thromboembolism (VTE). The Global Burden of Disease Study 2010 (GBD 2010) documented that ischaemic heart disease and stroke collectively caused one in four deaths worldwide. GBD 2010 did not report data for VTE as a cause of death and disability. We performed a systematic review of the literature ...
متن کاملSustainable biochar to mitigate global climate change
Production of biochar (the carbon (C)-rich solid formed by pyrolysis of biomass) and its storage in soils have been suggested as a means of abating climate change by sequestering carbon, while simultaneously providing energy and increasing crop yields. Substantial uncertainties exist, however, regarding the impact, capacity and sustainability of biochar at the global level. In this paper we est...
متن کاملGlobal Approaches to Sustainable Food Packaging
Global Approaches to Sustainable Food Packaging Food and packaging waste are increasingly being assessed against common sustainability metrics and the value of a circular economy is being realized. Common sustainability metrics address the environmental cost of packaging to reduce food and nutrient waste. The advancing promise of a more circular economy is the result of new packaging legislatio...
